Before you fly
Things every Mexican traveler should know about Turkey.
You need a voltage converter, not just an adapter
Turkey runs on 220V Type F. Mexico runs on 110V Type A/B. Phones and laptops handle 220V fine, a plug adapter is enough. Hair dryers, curling irons, and Mexican kitchen gadgets need a real voltage converter or they will burn out.
Spanish is rare, English is the bridge
Hotels and major restaurants speak English. Outside tourist zones, learn 5 phrases: Merhaba (hi), Teşekkür ederim (thanks), Lütfen (please), Hesap (bill), Su (water). Google Translate offline is your friend.
Carry USD cash, not MXN
Mexican pesos cannot be exchanged in Turkey. Bring USD cash. Mexican Visa and Mastercard work at ATMs and most shops, expect a 2 to 3 percent foreign transaction fee.
Turkey is 9 hours ahead of CDMX
Eastbound jet lag hits hard. Best months: April to May and September to October. Avoid Cappadocia in July to August, extreme heat. Avoid Mexican Semana Santa for solitude.
