Why Dominicans choose Turkey
Why two founding old cities recognize each other.
Dominican Republic Turkey eVisa applications keep climbing. Three reasons run through most of them, and the answer is older than either country's modern flag.

Dominicans living in the United States and Spain
Most Dominican applicants apply from New York, Miami, or Madrid. Turkish Airlines flies nonstop from JFK, MIA, and MAD, putting Istanbul a single connection from Punta Cana.
Founding cities
1496 & 330
Santo Domingo founded vs Constantinople (Istanbul) founded as Roman capital
Dominicans who grew up beside the Zona Colonial, the first European city in the Americas, find Sultanahmet and Hagia Sophia a familiar feeling. Two UNESCO old cities, two founding moments.

Before you fly
Things every Dominican traveler should know about Turkey.
Spanish reaches further than you think
Turkish hospitality staff in Istanbul and Antalya increasingly speak Spanish, driven by Latin American tourism growth. Pair with 5 Turkish phrases: Merhaba (hola), Teşekkür ederim (gracias), Lütfen (por favor), Hesap (la cuenta), Su (agua).
Carry USD, not DOP
Dominican Peso is not exchanged in Turkey. Bring USD cash. Cards from Banco Popular, BHD, Banreservas, Scotiabank Dominicana work at Turkish ATMs, check your international transaction limit before travel. ATMs at Istanbul Airport dispense USD or TRY directly.
7 hours ahead of Santo Domingo
Turkey runs UTC+3 year-round. Santo Domingo is UTC-4. The 7-hour eastbound shift is real jet lag. Best months to visit: April to June and September to October, mild weather, dodging Caribbean hurricane season.
Cigars and rum, allowed in moderation
Bring up to 50 Dominican cigars (Davidoff, Arturo Fuente, La Aurora) and 1 L of rum duty-free per adult. Commercial quantities require declaration. Turkish customs are routine for Dominican travelers, no special inspection.
Questions, answered
Turkey eVisa FAQ for Dominican Republic travelers.
No. Dominican Republic passport holders qualify for the Turkey eVisa directly, with no supporting Schengen, US, UK, or Ireland visa required. Your Dominican passport alone is the basis for the application.
Multiple entry. Dominican Republic passport holders receive a 180 days validity window from the date of issue, within which they can enter Turkey multiple times and stay up to 90 days per visit. Useful for travelers combining Turkey with Greek island hops, Cyprus, or onward Europe trips.
No. The Dominican cédula is a domestic ID and not requested for the Turkey eVisa. Only your Dominican Republic passport is required. The passport must have at least 6 months of validity remaining from the date you enter Turkey, and 2 blank pages.
Yes. Every traveler, including infants and minors, needs an individual eVisa linked to their own Dominican Republic passport. No qualifying foreign visa is required for any age. Family applications can be submitted in a single transaction on our portal.
Three processing speeds are available. Express is the fastest. Most Dominican applications are approved within 24 business hours, regardless of the speed selected.
From USD 120 all-inclusive. Standard USD 120, Priority USD 149, Express USD 179. All government fees, document review, support, and tracking included. Pricing is in USD only. Dominican cards from Banco Popular, BHD, Banreservas, Scotiabank Dominicana, and Banco BHD León are accepted, your bank converts DOP to USD at the prevailing rate.
There is no nonstop SDQ to IST flight. Common routings: Turkish Airlines codeshares via JFK or Miami, Iberia via Madrid (with Turkish Airlines connection), Air Europa via Madrid. Total travel time 16 to 20 hours. Dominicans living in Spain often fly Madrid to Istanbul direct on Turkish Airlines (4 hours), and Dominicans in the US fly JFK or MIA nonstop (10 to 11 hours).
Yes. Dominican cigars (Davidoff, Arturo Fuente, La Aurora) are permitted in moderate quantities for personal use. Turkish customs allow up to 200 cigarettes or 50 cigars duty-free per adult. Commercial quantities require declaration. Dominican rum is also allowed within standard alcohol limits (1 L of spirits per traveler).
Yes, and this is one of the strongest reasons to use the multiple-entry feature. Common Dominican itinerary: fly into Istanbul, ferry to Greek islands (Rhodes, Kos, Lesbos) on a separate Schengen visa, return to Turkey, fly out from Antalya or Izmir. The eVisa permits re-entry within the 180-day validity window.
Turkey is 7 hours ahead of Dominican Republic time year-round (Turkey does not observe daylight saving, and the Dominican Republic does not either). Jet lag is significant eastbound; expect 2 to 3 days of adjustment, particularly if you connect through Madrid or New York.
Antalya and Bodrum are Turkey's resort coast, similar to Punta Cana in scale and all-inclusive culture, but Mediterranean instead of Caribbean: rockier coastlines, cooler water, ancient Roman ruins built into the beach towns (Side, Phaselis). Beach season runs May to October. Dominicans who enjoy Bávaro and Cap Cana typically find Belek and Kemer the closest cultural match.
Not on the eVisa. The 90 days-per-entry limit is fixed. To stay longer you must exit Turkey and apply for a different visa class (such as a longer-term tourist visa or a residence permit) from a Turkish consulate. You can, however, exit and re-enter Turkey within the 180 days validity window for additional 90 days stays.
