Why Egyptians choose Turkey
Why 231,000+ Egyptians flew to Turkey in 2024.
A 23.5% year-on-year jump, one of Turkey's fastest-growing source markets. Three forces are pulling Egyptian travelers.
Mamluk meets Ottoman
600
Years of shared Mamluk and Ottoman Islamic heritage between Cairo and Istanbul
Egyptian visitors find Suleymaniye, Eyup Sultan, and Bursa's Green Mosque a direct extension of Khan el-Khalili and Islamic Cairo. The calligraphy, the bazaars, the madrasas all read familiar.
Cairo to Istanbul, 3 hours
5
Approved carriers flying the Egypt route, with daily nonstops from CAI
Turkish Airlines, Egypt Air, Pegasus, AJet, and Air Cairo all serve the route. Same five carriers that qualify for the Egypt eVisa rule. Cheaper than Dubai stopovers and twice as fast.
Affordable Mediterranean
+23.5%
Year-on-year growth in Egyptian arrivals to Turkey in 2024
EGP holds value better in TRY than in EUR. Antalya, Bodrum, and Cappadocia are now Egyptian-family-budget Mediterranean destinations, with halal-default dining and Arabic-friendly hotels.

What you will need
Three documents for the Egyptian eVisa.
The airline rule makes the Egyptian application unique. Three items on the left, everything you can skip on the right.
Passport, qualifying visa, airline ticket
- Egyptian passport with 6 months of remaining validity and 2 blank pages.
- A valid Schengen, US, UK, or Ireland visa or residence permit, valid on the day you enter Turkey.
- A confirmed round-trip ticket on Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, AJet, Air Cairo, or Egypt Air.
Leave the rest at home.
No UAE or Gulf residence visa
No photo upload
No hotel confirmations
No bank statements
No National ID copies
No tax card or employment letter
No invitation letters
For most cases, the three documents above are all we need. If Turkish immigration asks for anything further on the rare exception, our team will reach out and guide you through it.
The airline rule is enforced at the gate
Egyptian eVisa holders must arrive on Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, AJet, Air Cairo, or Egypt Air. Tickets on Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, Lufthansa, or other carriers are not accepted. Book the qualifying carrier first, then apply for the eVisa.
Before you fly
Things every Egyptian traveler should know about Turkey.
Book the airline first, the visa second
Egyptian eVisa is tied to your inbound carrier. Lock in Turkish Airlines, Pegasus, AJet, Air Cairo, or Egypt Air before applying. Refundable tickets give you flexibility while the eVisa processes.
Arabic gets you closer than English
Turkish and Arabic share dozens of words: kitab, qalam, dunya, kalb, hayat, mashallah. Egyptian travelers pick up basic Turkish faster than most. Hotel and bazaar staff in Istanbul often speak Arabic to Egyptian guests.
Carry USD, EGP doesn't exchange
Egyptian Pound is not exchanged in Turkey. Bring USD cash. Egyptian Visa and Mastercard work at ATMs, expect a 2 to 3 percent foreign transaction fee plus your bank's exchange margin.
1 hour ahead of Cairo
Turkey is 1 hour ahead of Egypt. No real jet lag. Best months for Egyptian travelers: April to June and September to October, avoiding Cairo's heat peak and Turkey's winter.
Questions, answered
Turkey eVisa FAQ for Egyptian travelers.
Yes. Egyptian passport holders are eligible for the Turkey eVisa only if they hold a valid Schengen, US, UK, or Ireland visa or residence permit at the time of travel, AND fly into Turkey on an approved airline (see below). Without both conditions, you must apply for a sticker visa at a Turkish consulate in Cairo or Alexandria.
Only five airlines: Turkish Airlines, Pegasus Airlines, AJet, Air Cairo, and Egypt Air. You must hold a confirmed round-trip ticket on one of these for both your inbound flight to Turkey and the return flight out. Booking with Emirates, Etihad, Qatar Airways, Lufthansa, or any other carrier disqualifies the eVisa for Egyptians.
Yes. UK Indefinite Leave to Remain, Italian Permesso di Soggiorno (PSE), Ireland Stamp 4, US Green Card, and any Schengen long-stay visa or residence permit are all accepted. The airline rule still applies on top of this.
No. UAE, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait, and Bahrain work or residence visas do not qualify for the Egypt-route Turkey eVisa. Egyptians working in the Gulf must either obtain a Schengen, US, UK, or Ireland visa first, or apply for a Turkish sticker visa at a consulate.
Yes. Every traveler, including infants and minors, needs an individual eVisa linked to their own Egyptian passport. Each child must also hold a valid Schengen, US, UK, or Ireland visa or residence permit, and the family must travel on the approved-airline round-trip ticket.
Single entry only. Egyptian passport holders receive a 180 days validity window from the date of issue, within which they can enter Turkey once and stay up to 30 days. To re-enter, a new eVisa is required (with all conditions reapplying).
No, the eVisa cannot be extended. To stay longer you must exit Turkey and apply for a different visa class (such as a longer-term tourist visa or residence permit) from a Turkish consulate. Overstaying triggers fines and a future entry ban.
Three processing speeds are available. Express is the fastest. Most Egyptian applications are approved within 24 business hours regardless of the speed selected. See the pricing card on this page for details.
From USD 120 all-inclusive. Standard USD 120, Priority USD 149, Express USD 179. All government fees, document review, support, and tracking included. Pricing is in USD only. Egyptian cards are accepted, your bank converts EGP to USD at the prevailing rate.
Turkish Airlines and Egypt Air run daily nonstops from Cairo (CAI) to Istanbul, around 3 hours. Pegasus Airlines and AJet fly Cairo to Sabiha Gokcen. Air Cairo also serves the route. All five carriers qualify for the Egypt eVisa airline rule. Alexandria has more limited Turkey nonstops.
Yes. Istanbul's Suleymaniye and Eyup Sultan mosques, Bursa's Green Mosque, and Edirne's Selimiye are accessible on a standard 30 days eVisa. Egyptian visitors often pair Istanbul with a Bursa day trip to see Ottoman imperial architecture that complements Cairo's Islamic Cairo district.
Your supporting visa or residence permit must be valid at the time of your entry into Turkey. If it expires while you are inside Turkey, you can complete your stay and exit normally, but you cannot re-enter Turkey on the same eVisa, and your next Turkey eVisa application will require a fresh qualifying document.
