Why Maldivians choose Turkey

Why Maldivians fly to Turkey for everything home doesn't have.

A 520,000-person nation with one of the world's highest per-capita travel rates. Maldivians visit Turkey for healthcare, education, and shopping, not for beaches they already have.

Medical tourism gateway

5,000+

Maldivian medical tourists to Turkey each year

Memorial, Acibadem, and Liv Hospital lead the world's busiest medical-tourism hub. Pricing 30 to 50 percent below UK or Singapore.

Turkey Scholarships

100+

Maldivian students on Turkish government scholarships each year

A top scholarship destination for Maldivian university students. The multi-entry eVisa covers both semester-start and semester-end family visits.

Premium spec

90 × multi

Days per visit, multiple entries within 180 days from issue

Most eVisa nationalities get single-entry 30 days. Maldivians get the premium product, built for medical, shopping, and family trips on one visa.

Before you fly

Things every Maldivian traveler should know about Turkey.

Pack a real jacket, not slippers

Istanbul has four seasons. Cappadocia drops to 5°C in winter, Antalya is mild year-round. December to March, bring a proper coat. Most Maldivians underestimate Turkish winter.

Carry USD, not MVR

Maldivian Rufiyaa is not exchanged in Turkey. Bring USD cash. Notify your Maldivian bank of travel dates, BoM and Maldives Islamic Bank cards block foreign transactions by default.

Halal default, fish-forward menus

Every restaurant is halal. Maldivians comfortable with mas (tuna) will find Turkish seafood mezes familiar. Red meat and lamb are heavier than Maldivian palates expect.

3 hours behind Male

Turkey is 3 hours behind Maldivian time. Minor jet lag. Best months for Maldivians: April to October for warmth, December to February if you want to see snow for the first time.

Questions, answered

Turkey eVisa FAQ for Maldivian travelers.

Yes, Maldivian citizens need a visa, but they qualify for the online eVisa. No embassy visit or sticker visa is required for short visits.

No. Maldivian passports are on Turkey's direct eVisa eligibility list. No supporting visa or residence permit is needed. The eVisa is the entire process.

Multiple entry, the premium eVisa spec. Maldivian passport holders get a 180 days validity window from the date of issue, can enter Turkey multiple times within that window, and stay up to 90 days per visit. Total stay capped at 90 days in any rolling 180 days period from first entry.

Not on the eVisa. The 90 days per visit limit is fixed. To stay longer in one trip you must exit Turkey and apply for a longer-term visa class at a Turkish consulate. Within the eVisa window you can re-enter for another stay, capped at 90 total days per rolling 180 days period.

Three processing speeds are available. Express is the fastest. Most Maldivian applications are approved within 24 business hours regardless of the speed selected.

From USD 120 all-inclusive. Standard USD 120, Priority USD 149, Express USD 179. All government fees, document review, support, and tracking included. Pricing is in USD only. Maldivian cards are accepted, your bank converts MVR to USD at the prevailing rate.

There is no nonstop Male to Istanbul flight. Common routings: Turkish Airlines via Dubai, Emirates via Dubai, Qatar Airways via Doha, SriLankan via Colombo. Total travel time 12 to 16 hours depending on connection. Most Maldivian travelers prefer the Dubai or Doha stopover for convenience.

Yes. The 90-day stay on the tourist eVisa is sufficient for nearly all elective procedures Maldivians commonly travel for: hair transplants, dental implants, cosmetic surgery, eye surgery, and cardiac diagnostics. Major hospital networks like Memorial, Acibadem, and Liv Hospital have dedicated international patient teams. For surgery beyond 90 days of recovery, a longer-term medical visa from a Turkish consulate is needed.

Yes. Each family visitor needs their own Turkey eVisa linked to their own Maldivian passport. The student's scholarship residence permit does not extend to visiting family. Multi-entry on your eVisa means you can visit twice within 180 days, useful for semester start and end.

Yes, every traveler including infants and minors needs an individual eVisa linked to their own Maldivian passport. Each application is filed separately.

Apply with the passport you will actually travel on. The eVisa is linked to your passport number, so a different number on your travel passport will not match. Wait for the renewal to complete before applying.

Almost every restaurant in Turkey is halal by default, no Maldivian needs to worry. Prayer times are widely respected, mosques are everywhere, and Friday Jumma at Suleymaniye, Eyup Sultan, or Hagia Sophia is a routine part of Maldivian itineraries.
