Why Nepalis choose Turkey

Why two mountain nations finally connect direct.

Nepali Turkey eVisa demand has accelerated since Turkish Airlines launched the Kathmandu nonstop. Three reasons drive most of it.

Mount Ararat, Turkey's highest. Nepal: 8,849 m (Everest)

Himalayan trekkers find Mount Ararat, Kaçkar Mountains, and Cappadocia ridge trails at sea-level acclimatization. Familiar gear, lower altitudes, no oxygen needed.

Before you fly

Things every Nepali traveler should know about Turkey.

Manti is the Turkish momo

Silk Road dumpling heritage links them. Turkish manti is smaller than a momo, served with garlic yogurt and chili butter instead of achaar. Try at Beyoğlu meyhanes. Lentil köfte rhymes with dal bhat in spirit.

Carry USD, not NPR

Nepalese Rupee is not exchanged in Turkey. Bring USD cash. Cards from Nabil, Himalayan, NIC Asia, Standard Chartered Nepal work at Turkish ATMs but check your daily international transaction cap before travel.

2 hours 45 minutes behind Kathmandu

Nepal Time runs on the unique UTC+5:45 offset. Turkey is UTC+3, so 2 hours 45 minutes behind Kathmandu. Best months: April to June and September to October, avoiding Nepal monsoon and Turkish winter.

Trekking gear travels fine

Hiking boots, sleeping bags, and rain shells in checked luggage are routine. Ice axes, crampons, trekking poles must be checked, never hand baggage. Mount Ararat permits arrange separately through licensed Turkish operators.

Questions, answered

Turkey eVisa FAQ for Nepali travelers.

Yes. Nepali passport holders are eligible for the Turkey eVisa only if they hold a valid Schengen, US, UK, or Ireland visa or residence permit at the time of travel. Without one of these supporting documents, you must apply for a sticker visa at the Turkish embassy in New Delhi (Turkey does not have an embassy in Kathmandu).

Yes. UK Biometric Residence Permits, Indefinite Leave to Remain, settlement visas issued under the Gurkha resettlement scheme, US Green Cards, Ireland Stamp 4, Italian Permesso di Soggiorno, and any valid Schengen visa or residence permit are accepted. The qualifying document must be valid on the day you enter Turkey.

No. The Turkish eVisa for Nepali citizens only accepts a valid Schengen, US, UK, or Ireland visa or residence permit. Japanese, Korean, Australian, Gulf, and other visas do not qualify. If you do not hold one of the four qualifying documents, you must apply for a regular sticker visa at the Turkish embassy in New Delhi.

No. The Nepal Citizenship Card is a domestic document and is not requested for the Turkey eVisa. Only your Nepali passport plus the qualifying Schengen, US, UK, or Ireland visa or residence permit are required.

Yes. Every traveler, including infants and minors, needs an individual eVisa linked to their own Nepali passport. Each child must also independently hold a valid Schengen, US, UK, or Ireland visa or residence permit on their own passport, or be a dependent on a qualifying visa.

Single entry only. Nepali passport holders receive a 180 days validity window from the date of issue, within which they can enter Turkey once and stay up to 30 days. To re-enter, a new eVisa is required.

Not on the eVisa. The 30 days limit per entry is fixed. To stay longer you must exit Turkey and apply for a different visa class (such as a longer-term tourist visa or a residence permit) from a Turkish consulate. Overstaying triggers fines and a future entry ban.

Three processing speeds are available. Express is the fastest. Most Nepali applications are approved within 24 business hours, regardless of the speed selected.

From USD 120 all-inclusive. Standard USD 120, Priority USD 149, Express USD 179. All government fees, document review, support, and tracking included. Pricing is in USD only. Nepali cards from Nabil, Himalayan, NIC Asia, and Standard Chartered Nepal are accepted within bank international transaction caps, your bank converts NPR to USD.

Yes. Turkish Airlines operates nonstop service between Kathmandu Tribhuvan (KTM) and Istanbul (IST). Flight time is approximately 9 hours 30 minutes westbound, 10 hours eastbound. Alternative routings include Qatar Airways via Doha, Emirates via Dubai, and Etihad via Abu Dhabi, all of which allow Nepali passport holders airside transit without a separate visa.

Yes. Trekking gear is fully allowed in checked luggage. Ice axes, crampons, and trekking poles must be checked, never carried in hand baggage. Many Nepali travelers extend Turkey trips with Mount Ararat (5,137 m), Kaçkar Mountains, or Cappadocia ridge walks, all of which suit hikers acclimatized to Himalayan altitudes.

Your supporting visa or residence permit must be valid at the time of your entry into Turkey. If it expires while you are inside Turkey, you can complete your stay and exit normally, but you cannot re-enter Turkey on the same eVisa, and your next Turkey eVisa application will require a fresh qualifying document.
